KVK Reasi celebrates Golden Jubilee of KVKs

Reasi, Apr 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated the Golden Jubilee of KVKs here today at KVK, Reasi which was enthuastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.BN Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. KVKs Golden Jubilee Torch reached here today at KVK, Reasi which was handed over by Dr.Parveen Kumar, Scientist, KVK, Ramban to Dr.Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, Reasi. While addressing the farmers Dr.Banarsi said that Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) - Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) are celebrating their Golden Jubilee Year in 2024. He informed that first Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) was established in 1974 at Pudducherry under Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore by the ICAR, New Delhi.
He said that KVKs have helped to increase the food grain production in the country. He narrated that KVKs serve has the hub of technology transfer, capacity building, vocational and skill development for farmers, market information, development of agribusiness etc. The Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) also known as Farm Science Centers, a gross root level scheme which was designed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in the country. He also informed the farmers that presently the ICAR has established 731 KVKs across the nation and these KVKs are mitigating the scientific agricultural needs of the farmers and are helping in human resource development in agriculture and allied sectors through trainings. He said that these KVKs are playing a significant role in rural transformation. Dr.Banarsi also appreciated the farmers for their efforts on commercial floriculture, organic vegetables growing,poultry farming,sericulture etc. During the programme a progressive farmers Sh. Sukhdev Singh and Sh. Kamal Singh were also present. The programme was assisted by Sh. Manohar Lal and Sh.Mohd. Iqbal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with the vote of thanks.
