Omar Abdullah addresses election rally in Rajpora
4/20/2024 10:31:57 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 20: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Saturday accused the BJP of putting the interests of the people of J&K at risk by preferring divisive and deceitful politics.
In his address, Omar said that the ensuing elections are not about choosing the Chief Minister or a minister but sending credible and representative voices to the Parliament. "You have to make a smart choice by weighing all the options. There is no scope for repeating past mistakes. If you want your aspirations to be heard in Lok Sabha, then there is no better candidate than Aga sahib. He is a prolific orator and he doesn't change his stance. His stance on critical issues concerning the region has remained unchanged. Bridging communal and sectarian divides has been a mainstay in his brand of politics. His efforts in curbing the communal strife, his unaltered stance on August, 5 2019, his quality of calling a spade a spade makes him appropriate for the purpose."
Omar Abdullah said this while addressing a mega public gathering at Muran in Rajpura while garnering support for the party's candidate for Srinagar Parliamentary constituency.
The public meeting was organized by district president Pulwama and in-charge Constituency Rajpura Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir. Party's candidate for Srinagar Parliamentary seat Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi also addressed the gathering. Among others Political Advisor to VP Mudassar Shahmiri, South Zone Vice President Muhammad Khalil Bandh were also present on the occasion.
Continuing his address, Omar Abdullah said, "Our identity, our existence, our honor, everything has been put at risk. We should send a true representative voice to Lok Sabha, the candidate should be the one who truly represents public emotions and feelings, not the one who divides the people on the basis of caste, creed, region and religion. Their design is to weaken the public voice by dividing votes. Why is that that despite our calls for unity they continued to speak against unity. Why don't they speak in voice one with us against the wrongs committed on people? Why did they choose to harm unity? When they come to you to seek support, ask them this question? Don't let them go without answering what they did in 2016, and 2018. The ball is in your court. I'm sure that you will exercise your franchise wisely and send a credible voice to Lok Sabha."
He impressed upon the people to keep up the underway tempo until assembly elections. "There is no denying to the fact that our people are suffering from unemployment, underdevelopment and administrative inertia all at the same time. These issues are the focus of upcoming assembly elections. However the ensuing Lok Sabha polls will set the stage for it."
Omar Abdullah said that May 13 is the day of voting for the Srinagar seat and there is a need to vote wisely on that day. "Those who are in hidden alliance with BJP or those who brought BJP here in their lap stand exposed today," he said.
Meanwhile, an election convention of Habba Kadal Constituency was held in Daresh Kadal Safa Kadal. Party women wing president Shamima Firdous, senior leader Irfan Ahmad Shah and district president Srinagar Peer Afaq Ahmed addressed the convention and urged party officials and workers to work hard to ensure the success of party candidate Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi.
