Jammu, Apr 20: Amid debate over the decision of the party not to field candidates on three Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir Valley, J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina on Saturday said that the local unit wanted to join the electoral battle but central leadership took the decision in the right perspective.
“As far as the J&K unit is concerned, we wanted to field our candidates on three seats of Kashmir Valley but the central leaders have another plan for the Valley”, he said but claimed that only BJP-supported candidates will win elections in Kashmir Valley.
“The candidates who have the blessing of BJP will emerge victorious on three Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir Valley”, Raina said and claimed that the BJP has a strong base in different parts of the Valley.
BJP)recently made it clear that they won’t be putting forward a candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat in Jammu an "BJP focusing on a plan to defeat political families on all three seats in Kashmir."
Ravinder Raina, explained that while they aren’t fielding candidates for these seats, they believe only candidates supported by BJP will win.
Raina emphasized that BJP has a strong presence and support across the Kashmir Valley. The decision not to contest in Anantnag-Rajouri was made by the central leadership with the people’s interests in mind.
He defended this decision by saying that BJP doesn’t just contest elections for the sake of it, but to win. Raina believes this decision was made wisely.
Regarding the party’s stance on the three seats in the Kashmir Valley, Raina mentioned that their focus is currently on the Jammu-Reasi seat, following the completion of polling in Udhampur-Doda. They plan to decide on the Kashmir seats after April 26, once polling is done in Jammu province. |
