Jammu, Apr 23: NSS Unit of Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, hosted a special screening of the documentary “The Power of the Ballot: A Journey Through Voting Awareness” on 23/04/2024, under the guidance of Dr. Meeru Abrol, principal of the college. This educational initiative aims to enlighten students and faculty about the significance of informed and active participation in the democratic process.
The documentary provided a comprehensive look into the history of voting rights, the evolution of voting practices, and the impact of voter turnout on democratic processes. Through insightful interviews with political analysts, historians, activists, film artists and everyday citizens, the film encourages viewers to engage more actively in their civic duties.
“Voting is not just a right; it’s a responsibility,” said Dr. Abrol, Principal of the college “Our documentary aims to empower young women with the knowledge and understanding they need to make informed choices at the ballot box. “We believe that education is the key to fostering active citizenship,” added Prof. Anju Bala, NSS P.O of the college. “By raising awareness about the importance of voting, especially among young women, we can work together to create a more equitable and inclusive democracy.”
