Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 25: Undeterred by threats from across the border, enthusiasm is high among border dwellers of the Jammu and Samba sectors as people are over-enthusiastic to exercise their right to franchise on Friday.
Arnia sector-comprising ten Panchayats, is part of the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha constituency where polling is going to be held on Friday-first phase of the phased general elections.
All the ten Panchayats are situated on the International Border (IB)-comprising over 40,000 votes-a deciding factor on this seat.
“People are over enthusiastic to cast their votes as they are very much aware that they have to exercise their democratic right”, Rajinder Singh, a resident of Arnia told The Early Times.
“Not only villagers, even a large number of border dwellers who have been working in towns and outside the State have also returned to their native places on the eve of polling day”, he said.
The majority of voters in the border
Border dwellers of Jammu and Samba sectors are enthusiastic to exercise their right to franchise on Friday.
All the ten Panchayats in Arnia sector are situated on the International Border (IB)-comprising over 40,000 votes.
Large number of border dwellers who are working in towns and outside the State have returned to cast their vote.
Spread over four districts of J&K, there are 340 highly sensitive polling stations in this Lok Sabha constituency.
elt are not highly qualified but are aware of the prevailing situation in the country so they don’t want to miss their voting rights.
“Anything can happen from across the border but we are over enthusiastic to enjoy the festival of democracy”, Balbir Chander, a resident of this dusty village of Treva said, adding, “During every election be it assembly, panchayat or Lok Sabha, people turned out in large number to cast their votes as fear of bullets failed to shatter our faith in democracy”.
Shockingly none of the contesting candidates visited this village during electioneering yet there was much enthusiasm among voters.
“Although candidates have not taken us seriously, we are committed to performing our duty as citizens of a democratic country”, said Balbir Chand, a resident.
Spread over four districts of J&K, there are 340 highly sensitive polling stations in this Lok Sabha constituency. Some polling stations are set up just near the Indo-Pak border.
