Jammu, Apr 25: On April 25th, 2024, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir came together to observe World Malaria Day, a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and combatting the spread of malaria. Under the meticulous supervision of Secretary Health & Medical Education Dr. Syed Abid Hussain Shah, and with the guidance of Director Health Services, Jammu Dr. Rakesh Magotra, various activities were organized to disseminate information and mobilize efforts towards the elimination of malaria. The day’s activities included participation in a web conference organized by the National Centre for Vector Borne Disease Control in collaboration with WHO. Additionally, a one-day technical workshop on the elimination of malaria by 2027 was attended by the Provincial Hospital Gandhinagar’s Nodal Officer, highlighting the commitment to national goals in combating the disease. Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities played a pivotal role in spreading awareness. IEC materials were published in leading newspapers, and TV interviews were conducted on Take One channel and Doordarshan Jammu. Akashwani Jammu broadcasted interviews and educational audio spots throughout the day, reaching a wide audience across the region. Furthermore, interviews on 91.8 Red FM, 90.4 FM Sharda, and 95.0 FM Tadka contributed to disseminating crucial information about malaria prevention and control.
