Jammu, May 5: Although the BJP has managed to pacify annoyed sitting Lok Sabha member Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, the decision of the Independent candidate Sajjad Hussain Kargili added worries for the party to retain this Parliamentary seat.
Surprising all leaders and activist Sajjad Hussain on Sunday withdrew his candidature from the Ladakh Parliamentary constituency to ensure unity among opposition leaders to defeat the BJP.
A prominent figure within the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), Sajjad Kargili, opted to file his nomination papers as an Independent candidate amidst mounting pressure from various factions urging him to withdraw in favor of a joint candidate from the Kargil Congress and National Conference, Haji Hanifa Jan.
Sources in the BJP said that party leadership in Ladakh was expecting that Kargili would definitely cut a huge chunk of votes from the Kargil district and it would pay the way for the party to retain the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat.
The BJP had reason to hope that Sajad Kargili would cut opposition votes when he was runner-up in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

During that electoral contest, the BJP candidate, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, secured a significant victory margin of 10,930 votes over a collective opposition comprising the NC, PDP, and Islamiya School Kargil joint candidate, Sajjad Kargili. Namgyal garnered 42,914 votes, surpassing Sajjad Kargili's tally of 31,984 votes. More importantly, Sajad Kargili emerged victorious from the Kargil assembly segment during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by securing 24683 votes against Congress candidate Asgar Ali Karbali who got 31617. The winner of this seat BJP candidate Jamyang Tsering Namgyal got 3201.
