BJP facing deep-rooted public anger in J&K: Sadhotra
5/16/2024 10:07:03 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 16: National Conference Additional General Secretary and Former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today said the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections across Jammu and Kashmir are sending a terse message to the BJP about its disconnect with the people and deep rooted anger over snatching their rights and status post August 2019.
On his return after three-day campaign in North Kashmir along with the National Conference Vice President and the Party Candidate for Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency Omar Abdullah, the Additional General Secretary said the BJP has acknowledged that it had no space in the hearts and minds of the people of valley by not fielding its own candidates for the three important seats. The scenario is no different in the two seats the BJP contested in the Jammu region where its candidates are destined to face humiliating defeat.
"Perhaps sensing the mood of voters due to anger over non-performance of its candidates in the two Jammu seats, the BJP decided to avoid direct contest with INDIA block for fear of drubbing by the voters", Ajay Sadhotra said, adding that this is admission of the lack of genuine grassroots presence in the region. He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir feel marginalized due to the policies adopted by the BJP headed dispensation at the Centre and the strong sentiment stems largely from the aftermath of the 2019 abrogation of Article 370, which stripped the region of its special status, snatching of statehood and fear of losing rights on jobs and lands by the bonafide state subjects.
Tremendous response of the people to National Conference and its Parliamentary Candidates shows that people are also anxiously waiting for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections to teach BJP a lesson.
Referring to recent statements and intermittent rhetoric of the BJP National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh, the NC Additional General Secretary said that he is naïve about Jammu and Kashmir politics and history. Had Chugh been well versed with the history, he would have known the pioneering 'Land to Tiller' under the revolutionary Land Reforms Act under the umbrella of Article 370. It did not only empower the landless but the subsequent initiative brought about social justice, equality and opened up vistas of opportunities for all, irrespective of region or religion, he said, daring the BJP to bring about land reforms legislation brought by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah. Chugh would have got to know about National Conference acceding with Mahatma Gandhi's secular India rather than opting for a theocratic state and subsequent sacrifices for preserving the secular and pluralistic character of Jammu and Kashmir, he added. Sadhotra counseled the leaders like Tarun Chugh, to study political developments, economic and social history of Jammu and Kashmir before bombarding statements from their cozy drawing rooms, not to fool the people and show guts if the BJP has by announcing elections for the Legislative Assembly, which they have been avoiding for since 2014. Those who could not participate in the Parliamentary Elections from the Valley are destined to close their political enterprise in Jammu and Kashmir, give total disillusionment among people for the BJP in both the regions, he added.
Sadhotra wondered that those believing that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were happy with the programmes and policies being pursued by the so-called double engine government and with the political development of August 2019, fled from the electoral scene and instead hide themselves behind proxies.
"The BJP and its leaders like Tarun Chugh should understand that the three candidates Mr Omar Abdullah, Mian Altaf and Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi are winning with big margin from Baramulla, Anantnag and Srinagar Parliamentary Constituencies and INDIA Bloc will win all the seats of Parliamentary Elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sadhotra advised the BJP to accept growing disconnection between the realities faced by the common people and the perspectives held by its 'so called Kashmir Experts, living in ivory towers, unmindful of the sufferings inflicted upon the common populace due to ill-conceived and reactionary policies. He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir feel totally alienated due to the policies, adopted particularly during the past over four and half year, that have pushed them to the wall. Jobs are shrinking, unemployment is growing, inflation is on the rise, utility services are far from satisfactory and the administrative inertia has touched lowest depths. The people have lost connect with those who are supposed to be governing and there seems no accountability, he added.
Sadhotra said the ongoing elections will teach the BJP a befitting lesson for what they have done to Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 and people of Jammu and Kashmir have made up their mind to throw BJP beyond Lakhanpur.
