JAMMU, May 16: In a heartfelt initiative, the Social Reform & Charitable Organisation (SR&CO) Kistwar, in collaboration with Vichar Kranti Manch International, Confederation of Voluntary, Social & CO, and the Indian Yoga Association, donated nutritional items to the National Federation of the Blind, Jammu Chapter Blind School, Roopnagar.
The project, spearheaded by Sanjiv Parihar, Founder Chairman of SR&CO, saw the distribution of various nutritional items including fruit juice packs, tomato puree, toothpaste, glucose, and toothbrushes, generously provided by DABUR INDIA. These items were distributed among the students, inmates, and staff of the Blind School.
Dr. Shreyansh Kumar Jain, State Yoga Commissioner, State Chairman of the Indian Yoga Association, and President of Vichar Kranti Manch International, provided valuable guidance on interacting with blind or visually impaired individuals. His advice included:
Use standard vocabulary when speaking with visually impaired individuals.
Always ask before offering assistance; do not grab or drag them.
Provide detailed descriptions.
Add image descriptions on social media.
Do not be offended if help is declined; always ask if assistance is needed.
Introduce yourself.
Avoid making assumptions.
Treat blind individuals with the same respect as anyone else.
Dr. Jain also proposed the initiation of a craft center at the school and offered to conduct monthly or fortnightly yoga sessions for the students. His proposal aims to enhance the holistic development of the students through regular engagement and skill-building activities.
Active participants in the event included KS Samyal, Advisor VKMI; Narinder Wadhera, President of the Evening Walkers Association, Trikuta Nagar Sec 2; and S. Amarjit Singh, Member SR&CO. The school principal, Nivedita, along with Ram Dass Dubey, Retired Headmaster DIET Jammu, and Chandni, the school's music teacher, facilitated the necessary arrangements for the event.
