KATHUA, May 31: NCC and NSS units of GDC Kathua organized a Webinar on the occasion of 'World No Tobacco Day' on 31st May 2024, The seminar held under the guidance of worthy Principal Prof. Seema Mir, aimed to raise awareness among students about the ill effects of Tobacco consumption on health and the environment, promoting the theme for World No Tobacco Day 2024 "Protecting children from tobacco industry interference".
Dr. Shamim Bandey an educationist and motivational speaker delivered keynote address and highlighted the alarming statistics, such as the conversion of 3.5 Million hectares of land annually for tobacco cultivation worldwide, leading to deforestation of 2 lakhs per year. He discussed how tobacco cultivation contributes to soil degradation, desertification, and soil fertility depletion.
The chief guest of the webinar worthy Principal Prof. Seema Mir delivered thought provoking lecture and asked the participants to took a pledge to refrain from Tobacco consumption and to work towards making their families, societies and environment tobacco free. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Pinkey, Caretaker NCC Girls Wing and NSS program officer of the college. The activity was coordinated by ANOs NCC Wings Prof. Ajay Kumar and Dr. Daya Ram and NSS Program Officers Dr. Kulbir Singh and Prof. Arvind Kumar. A large number of students along with various faculty members participated in this webinar.
