Early Times Report
DARHAL, May 31: The Government Degree College (GDC) Darhal has unveiled its plans to spearhead an extensive awareness campaign in observance of World Tobacco Day 2024. This year's theme is "Protecting children from tobacco industry interference," highlighting the critical need to safeguard children from the manipulative tactics of the tobacco industry. The event, held at the college campus, gathered local communities, health organizations, and policymakers to discuss and address the pressing issue. "As an institution committed to the well-being of our youth, GDC Darhal recognizes the urgent need to protect our children from the harmful influence of the tobacco industry," said Prof. Zamir Mirza, Principal of GDC Darhal. "Through this campaign, we aim to empower our community with the knowledge and tools necessary to combat this pervasive threat."
In the days leading up to World Tobacco Day 2024, the college has scheduled a series of activities, including:
Educational Workshops: Providing information on the dangers of tobacco use and strategies to resist industry influence.
Interactive Sessions: Engaging students and community members in discussions about tobacco prevention.
Public Outreach Programs: Spreading awareness through local outreach efforts.
"World Tobacco Day 2024 presents a crucial opportunity to ignite a movement that safeguards the future of our children," added Dr. Mohd Akhlaq, NSS Programme Officer of the college. "By working together, we can build a healthier, tobacco-free environment for generations to come."
GDC Darhal invites all stakeholders, including local government officials, healthcare providers, educators, and concerned citizens, to join this vital initiative. Together, they aim to create a lasting impact and ensure the protection of children from the manipulative practices of the tobacco industry.
