Commemoration of Martyrdom of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji held at Domana Gurudwara

JAMMU, June 10: The Shahidi Diwas of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji, the fifth Guru of the Sikhs, was solemnly observed today at Gurudwara Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Domana. The event saw a significant gathering of devotees who came together to pay tribute to the great Guru, who is remembered for his ultimate sacrifice for the principles of humanity and religious sanctity. Guru Arjun Dev Ji laid down his life on 30th May 1606 in Lahore, after being subjected to torture by the Mughal emperor Jahangir. The emperor had demanded that the Guru abandon Sikhism and convert to Islam. Guru Arjun Dev Ji's steadfast refusal and his acceptance of martyrdom have since been a beacon of faith and resilience for Sikhs worldwide. The commemoration began with the recitation of Gurbani Kirtan by various esteemed Ragi Jathas, including Bhai Balvinder Singh Hauri Ragi Jatha from Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar, Bhai Jagdev Singh, Bhai Amrik Singh Dhadi Jatha from Pathankot, and Katha Vachak Bhai Harbinder Singh Parcharak from the SGPC Amritsar. Bhai Balwant Singh Ji Parcharak from SGPC also spoke, reflecting on Guru Arjun Dev Ji's legacy as a chapter in history that exemplifies self-sacrifice, courage, and unwavering faith. Additionally, children from Gurmat Vidyalaya Marh Bagh performed Shabad Kirtan, adding a youthful spirit to the solemn occasion.S. Balvinder Singh, Vice President of the District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu, addressed the devotees, emphasizing the profound impact of Guru Arjun Dev Ji's martyrdom on Sikhism. He highlighted that the legacy of Guru Arjun Dev Ji continues to inspire Sikhs to uphold values such as justice, equality, and resilience in the face of adversity. Singh also brought attention to contemporary issues concerning the violation of fundamental rights of Sikhs, particularly the barring of Sikh students from examination centers of NEET and CUET while wearing religious symbols such as the Kada and Kirpan. S. Avtar Singh, another member of the DGPC Jammu, also spoke at the event, reiterating the importance of Guru Arjun Dev Ji's teachings in modern times.Key contributors to the successful organization of the event were acknowledged, including Smt. Raj Kumari, the widow of Lt. Balwant Rai, who donated land for the construction of the Gurudwara and school. Mohan Lal and Raju were also appreciated for their contributions, particularly in providing Langar Seva, which included serving Kheer to the devotees.The event was held under the patronage of Sant Tejwant Singh, the Dera Mukhi of Dera Sant Pura Danna, alongside other committee members such as Baldev Singh, Tejinder Singh Kaku, and Manjit Singh Domana, S Amarjit Singh member SGSD international School, The stage proceedings were conducted by Manjit Singh, the Secretary. As part of the commemoration, Guru Ka Langar was served to all attendees, along with Chabeel and various other refreshments. The event not only honoured the memory of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji but also reinforced the communal bonds and religious fervor among the attendees, reflecting the enduring spirit of Sikhism.
