Assembly polls preparations underway in J&K: PM Modi
‘Day not far when J&K’s statehood will be restored’

Jammu, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that preparations for the Assembly elections have started in Jammu and Kashmir and days are not far when people will elect their own government.
“Our government is committed that every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir will take benefits of the democracy. People of J&K have every right to elect their representatives at the local level to get their issues solved”, the Prime Minister said while addressing a function at Srinagar after laying foundation stone and inaugurating 84 developmental projects worth Rs 1,500 crore in Srinagar,
“To allow people of J&K to elect their own government, preparations have already started for conducting Assembly elections in J&K”, the Prime Minister assured, adding, “days are not far when people of J&K will elect their government”.
Assuring to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister people will also decide their future in a full-fledged state.
Highlighting the achievements his government, the Prime Minister said that the abrogation of Article 370 was a historic event in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dubbing Article 370 as divisive and discriminatory, the Prime Minister said that the divisive wall has been demolished, and now every section of the society taking the benefits of the abrogation of
Article 370.
“After the abrogation of Article 370, the Constitution of India has been implemented in J&K in a real sense”, he said and added that
People of J&K have every right to elect their representatives at the local level to get their issues resolved.
To allow people of J&K to elect their own government, preparations have already started.
The abrogation of Article 370 was a historic event in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Centre has taken the recent terror attacks in J&K very seriously and the enemies will be given a befitting reply.
the whole world is watching the development and progress in J&K after the abrogation of this article.
The Prime Minister further females and weaker sections of the society were the worst victims of Article 370 who were denied their constitutional and human rights due to this discriminatory article.
“Now things have been changed. Rights have been restored to our daughters”, he said and mentioned that West Pakistani refugees, Valmikis, and other marginalized sections of the society got their rights after the abrogation of Article 370.
The Prime Minister also made it a point that the Union Government has taken many revolutionary steps like granting Scheduled Tribe status to Pahari, Paddri tribe, Gadda Brahaman, and Koli. He also mentioned that political reservations were granted to Scheduled Tribe. Similarly, reservations were also granted to OBCs in Urban Local Bodies and Panchayat elections.
Prime Minister said the central government has taken the recent terror attacks in the Union territory very seriously and the enemies of Jammu and Kashmir will be given a befitting reply.
He also praised the youths of Jammu and Kashmir for the high turnout in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls and said they have ensured victory of democracy.
“The Centre has taken the recent terror attacks very seriously. The home minister held a meeting and reviewed the entire mechanism. I want to assure that we will leave no stone unturned to punish the enemies of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
