Strengthening VDCs to foil nefarious designs of anti-national elements: Bharat Bhushan
7/13/2024 10:47:02 PM
Early Times Report

AKHNOOR, July 13: DDC Chairman Bharat Bhushan Bodhi, accompanied by senior BJP leaders, visited the Gurha Pattan area of Akhnoor to address concerns raised by local residents following reports of some suspicious elements in the region. During his visit, he noted a palpable sense of panic among the community.
Interacting with local community members, the DDC Chairman learned that local youth had received weapon training from the Army. However, they have not been equipped with the necessary resources following their training. He remarked, “This is the ideal time to harness this trained manpower to counter the nefarious designs of anti-national elements. These individuals are best positioned to provide security to our vulnerable communities.”
He said that VDCs were established during the peak of militancy in the 1990s as a means of self-defense and to assist security forces in combating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. They played a vital role in safeguarding remote and border areas, particularly in regions where the presence of security forces was limited, he added.
The DDC Chairman emphasized the urgent need to strengthen Village Defence Committees (VDCs) in light of the recent rise in terrorist activities across the Jammu region.
In addition to strengthening VDCs, he also urged the government to increase the movement of the Army in areas identified as suspicious, thereby enhancing overall security measures.
The DDC Chairman reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents, asserting that a collaborative approach between the community and security forces is crucial in these challenging times.
