Early Times REPORT

Jammu, July 21: Realizing that support of the Jammu region is a must to emerge as the single largest party in the coming Assembly elections, former Chief Minister and Vice-President of the National Conference Omar Abdullah on Sunday kicked off an aggressive campaign to win over residents of this region.
After reaching Jammu, Omar Abdullah addressed his public meeting at the historic village of Gurha Slathia. Omar's decision to choose Gurha Slathia for his first public rally in connection with the coming Assembly elections is important in the sense that on the one hand, this village has an important role in the history of Dogra and secondly this is a native village of former National Conference stalwart and ex-Minister Surjit Singh Slathia.
Notable Surjit Singh Slathia along with Devender Singh Rana had joined the BJP at the party headquarters in New Delhi on October 11, 2021.
The duo had quitted the National Conference on October 10, 2021. Slathia was associated with the National Conference for long and had won elections as a party candidate from the Vijaypur Assembly segment in 1996 an

2008.
Although Omar Abdullah avoided attacking Surjit Singh Slathia, he sought the support of the people to establish a pro-people government in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the National Conference was committed to ensure justice in all regions and sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
As reported earlier, after ignoring the Jammu region, both politically and economically, the National Conference now realized the importance of this region of the Union Territory to establish a strong popular government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Opposing the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs to amend the J&K Reorganization Act, Omar sought the support of the people of the Jammu region.
“The people of J&K, especially Jammu, will have to vote against the nefarious intentions of the BJP-led NDA government which wants to disempower the people of J&K. A strong government in J&K with a solid mandate is the only answer to this order because it’s going to be a tough fight to get our statehood back”, Omar Abdullah posted on his social media account while reacting to a report regarding powers of the Legislative Assembly of the J&K.
