JAMMU, July 21: A one-day UT level training workshop for Master Trainers on Plastic Waste Management was successfully conducted at the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Rural Development in Jammu by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj J&K. The workshop aimed to equip master trainers with comprehensive knowledge and skills on effective plastic waste management to ensure a cleaner and sustainable environment. Sana Khan, Deputy Director Rural Sanitation Jammu, gave the introductory remarks. She emphasized the importance of plastic waste management in mitigating environmental pollution and enhancing public health. She highlighted the need for a concerted effort in tackling plastic waste through community engagement and education. Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP) Jammu also graced the event and shared his insights on the role of Panchayats in supporting plastic waste management initiatives. He stressed the significance of strict enforcement of regulations concerning plastic use and disposal.
The workshop featured a series of informative sessions by Dr. Saptak Rarotra, Consultant (Directorate of Rural Sanitation) UT of J&K, focusing on best practices in plastic waste management, innovative recycling techniques, and the importance of reducing plastic use at the source and source segregation of waste. One of the key topics discussed during the workshop was the forward linkage of plastic waste management. Experts highlighted the importance of establishing a robust system for collecting, segregating, and processing plastic waste. Emphasis was placed on creating partnerships with recycling industries and encouraging entrepreneurship in waste management to ensure a sustainable cycle of plastic use and reuse.
The workshop concluded with a commitment from all participants to actively promote plastic waste management initiatives and work towards creating a plastic-free environment.
