JALANDHAR, July 29: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has notified Lovely Professional University (LPU) with the highest "Category 1" graded autonomy status. The move stems from the UGC mandate to determine, promote and maintain standards of higher education in India. This prestigious recognition from UGC is a testament to LPU's unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of academic excellence.
For Category 1 UGC recognized the top-tier institutions based on their outstanding rankings and NAAC scores of 3.51 or above. Furthermore, these universities have consistently featured among the esteemed top 500 global rankings, further cementing their reputation as institutions of global repute.
The conferment of Category 1 graded autonomy empowers LPU to exercise greater academic independence and enjoy numerous privileges. LPU can now introduce new programs and extend Open and Distance Learning (ODL) opportunities, catering to the diverse educational needs of students. Moreover, the university can establish off-campus centers, research parks, and innovation centers, while also recruiting foreign faculty members, all without requiring approval from the UGC.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the entire LPU family for their exceptional achievements in the realm of academia. Dr. Mittal attributed this remarkable accomplishment to LPU's steadfast dedication to delivering quality education, which was duly recognized through the attainment of the highest-ranking benchmark, the NAAC A++ grade.
In recent times, LPU has garnered further acclaim by securing the 4th position among Indian universities and an impressive 126th rank globally in the highly regarded World University Ranking for Innovation (WURI) 2024. Additionally, the university has emerged as one of the top 200 universities worldwide in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2024. Specifically in the category of quality education, LPU's exceptional global ranking of 19 has placed it as the second-highest-ranked university in India, surpassing both government and private institutions. These accolades reaffirm LPU's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional educational standards.
With the attainment of Category 1 graded autonomy, LPU is poised to continue its legacy of academic excellence, innovation, and global recognition. The university remains dedicated to nurturing future leaders and contributing to the advancement of knowledge and society as a whole.
