VC SKUAST-Jammu visits RS Pura campus of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry

Jammu, July 30: Under the patronage of Prof. B. N. Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, a week-long plantation drive was kicked off at Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, R.S Pura campus. During the event, Prof. Tripathi was accompanied by Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, Associate Dean, F.V.Sc & A.H and Dr. J.S. Soodan, Dean Faculty of Dairy Technology. All heads of various divisions, teaching and non-teaching staffs and a large number of students actively participated in the programme. The plantation drive was organized by Landscape & Beautification committee of F.V.Sc & A.H. RS Pura.
Prof. Tripathi took stock of Faculty and visited a newly created facility “Laboratory of Ethnoveterinary Medicine”, established by Dr. Neelesh Sharma in the Division of Veterinary Medicine under the projects. This lab is for the collection, identification and development of herbal products for the management livestock diseases with focus to minimize the use of antibiotics and tackle the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) issue. Prof. Tripathi appreciated the efforts for establishing the dedicated facility for the Ethnoveterinary Medicine, which is first kind of facility in this field. He has suggested to further strengthen this laboratory for more product-based research work.
Prof. Tripathi also visited newly renovated Livestock Production Management (LPM) lab. He appreciated the new facilities created in the in the lab, including ultracentrifugation high quality water purification system and cell culture facilities. He congratulated the scientists and emphasized upon the utility of these high-end facilities for quality research of post graduate students and scientists of the Faculty. Dr Tripathi also enquired about the ongoing research projects of the lab and highlighted the importance of characterization of local prevailing virus strain in poultry.
Vice-Chancellor also visited renovated Livestock Products Technology (LPT) lab. He observed all the newly purchased equipments and the different current works going on with that specific equipment. He emphasized on Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and it’s utility in wool characterization and it’s further usage in the field of pathology and microbiology. He also emphasized on High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography and its usage in fingerprinting technique. He emphasised on omics technique to characterise the biomarker using gel doc, PCR and Rt PCR.
During the visit of various Labs & facilities, Prof. Tripathi was accompanied by Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, Associate Dean, F.V.Sc & A.H; Dr. J.S. Soodan, Dean Faculty of Dairy Technology, concerned HoD and scientists of the Division.
