GGM Science College organizes a mega plantation drive

JAMMU, Aug 14: GGM Science College, in collaboration with the Department of Social Forestry, Jammu, organized a mega plantation drive in college campus. The initiative was part of the "Swachhta Pakhwada" program under the directive of the Government of India, aimed at promoting cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
The plantation drive saw the active participation of the college Principal, Prof. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Regional Director of Social Forestry, Jammu, Ravinder Singh Gloria, Director State Forest Corporation Mohinder Kumar Gupta and Divisional Forest Officers of Social Forestry, Jammu. The event also witnessed enthusiastic involvement from the staff, NSS and NCC Units of the college.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among the youth. He emphasized the critical role of educational institutions in promoting sustainable practices and contributing to the national agenda of environmental conservation.
Ravinder Singh , Regional Director, Social Forestry Jammu, who is also the Alumnus of the GGM Sc. college, commended the collaborative efforts of the college and the Department of Social Forestry. He reiterated the department's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote greenery and environmental awareness in the region.
NSS Program Officers, Dr. Neha Sharma and Dr. Rahul Kait, along with NCC Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) Lt. Dr. Devinder Kumar Sharma and Dr. Shafia Saleem, and Convener Prof Harmeet Kour along with the members of Eco club of college coordinated the efforts of students and staff in planting 200 saplings of various species. The diverse selection of plants aims to enhance the local biodiversity and contribute to the ecological balance in the region.
The event was a resounding success, reflecting the collective effort of the college community and the Department of Social Forestry. The plantation drive not only beautified the campus but also served as a significant step towards creating a greener and healthier environment.
