JAMMU, Sept 3: 12th Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Reasi was held under the chairmanship of Prof. B.N Tripathi, Vice Chancellor Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu at KVK Reasi. The meeting was attended by Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, Dr. S.K.Gupta Director Research, Dr. Sushil Sharma, Dean Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Dr. Vikas Tandon, Dean, Faculty of Horticulture & Forestry, Dr. Hema Tripathi, Associate Director Extension, Dr. Vinod Gupta, Head Division of Agricultural Extension Education & PI HADP Project, Harbans Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Reasi, Rajinder Kumar, Chief Horticulture Officer Reasi, Brij Vallabh, Chief Horticulture Officer Udhampur, Adarsh Gupta, DDM NABARD, Ghulam Mohd. Wani, LDM Reasi, representatives of allied Departments including floriculture, animal husbandry, sheep husbandry, fisheries and progressive farmers/farm women.
Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor SKUAST- Jammu & Chairman SAC directed KVK to focus on the collection of baseline data of both Reasi and Udhampur districts for better formulation of annual action plans. He suggested KVK to separately identify constraints of different agro-climatic zones for formulating zone specific action plans in consultation with district officers of line departments well before the start of financial year. While reiterating the fact that KVK is an important institution in terms of bridging the gap between research and extension, Prof Tripathi highlighted the importance of SAC meetings for deliberations and discussion on different issues in the district. He advised KVK to analyse the impact of scientific interventions of KVK by collecting quality data on desired results. Prof. Tripathi directed KVK to establish demonstration units such as solar fencing, IFS, mushroom, bee-keeping, dairy etc. at KVK for advancing the new knowledge to visiting farmers. He also suggested to include new areas of scientific interventions in trainings, on-farm trials and front line demonstrations.He also appreciated the endevours of KVK for serving the farmers of both Udhampur and Reasi distts.
Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension highlighted the need of increasing area under high yielding varieties in the district and suggested to incorporate new university released varieties of wheat and basmati rice under front line demonstrations. Dr. Hema Tripathi, Associate Director Extension suggested to focus on target oriented activities with respect to the needs of the district. She advised KVK to conduct impactful research and extension activities by understanding the needs of line departments.
Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Research ensured university support for providing scientist experts in different areas of agriculture and veterinary sciences. Dr. Vikas Tandon offered the support in providing trainings in hi-tech horticulture. Dr. Sushil Sharma briefed about the farm machinery standardised for farmers of hill district. Dr. J.S. Soodan expressed the need for organising trainings on value addition of milk. Dr. Vinod Gupta offered infrastructural support to KVK for establishment of demo units under HADP.
Earlier Dr. Banarasi Lal , Chief Scientist and Head KVK Reasi welcomed the dignitaries and presented work done alongwith Annual Action plan for the year 2024-25. While deliberating upon the annual action plan, Harbans Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Reasi requested to promote alternate cropping system for managing the monkey menace. Highlighting the importance of pruning and training in fruit trees, Rajinder Kumar proposed to organise programmes before the onset of winter. Brij Vallabh, Chief Horticulture Officer Udhampur suggested to develop a course on management of hi-tech poly houses for equipping farmers to handle the operations effectively. While briefing about the collaborative work conducted by KVK with NABARD, Adarsh Gupta ensured to offer project on spawn production. Tilak Raj and Sunita Devi requested to strengthen market linkages and profitable cropping systems in the district, respectively.
