GGM Science College Crowned Champions in Inter-Collegiate Football Tournament

Jammu, Sept 19: In a thrilling finale held today at the Science College Grounds, Govt. Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College, Jammu, clinched the championship title at the Inter-Collegiate Football Tournament. The final match was played between GGM Science College and Govt. MAM College, Jammu that showcased fierce competition and high-energy performances from both the teams, with GGM Science College standing out for their exceptional skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Dr. Ashaq Hussain, Incharge of the GGM Science College Football Team while divulging the details highlighted the intensity and skill level on display, emphasizing the narrow margins that decided the championship. Dr. Hussain added that in a highly competitive game, both teams displayed remarkable talent and determination, resulting in a scoreless draw at the end of regular allotted time. The match was then decided by penalty kicks, where GGM Science College managed to score 2 goals, securing their victory, while MAM College could only find the net once. For GGM Science College, Shivansh Raina and Aryan Jamwal successfully scored goals during the penalties whereas, Daksh was the lone goal scorer for MAM College.
The final match was officiated by Mr. Rahul Sharma, Mr. Aman Sudan, Mr. Kartik Sharma, Mr. Atul Verma, and Mr. Gagan Kumar. During the valedictory ceremony, which was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Monika Sharma, Dean Student Welfare at Cluster University Jammu, the victorious players of GGM Science College were crowned with gold medals, celebrating their hard-fought triumph. In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of GGM Science College, congratulated the players for bringing laurels to the institution. He also commended the efforts of Dr. Ashaq Hussain, Dr. Sunil Dutt(convener sports), and Dr. Vinod Kumar Bakshi (Director Physical Education) for their dedicated management and support to the team.
Dr. Monika Sharma, in her presidential address, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the winning team and praised the MAM College players for their exceptional performance. “Winning or losing hardly matters when you play exceptionally well; it’s the spirit of the game that counts,” she further remarked. The final match was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Dr. Chaman Lal, Dr. Arun Kumar, Physical Directors Ms. Neenu Sawhney, Mr. Ravi Kumar, Mr. Ramandeep Kralia, Ms. Kajal Premi, and Ms. Neelam Sharma from the Sports Department of GGM Science College.
The tournament has set a high standard for collegiate football in the region, and GGM Science College’s triumph will be remembered as a testament to the power of teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship.
