Jammu, Oct 7: The results of the much-talked-about elections of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be declared on Tuesday as the counting of votes begins for all 90 constituencies.
A total of 873 candidates including a former Chief Minister are in the fray in this historic election in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir after 1947.
The 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections mark a historic moment in the region's political evolution, especially after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections in 2024 were anticipated to be a landmark event in Indian political history. The first elections after the revocation of the region's special status in 2019, they were closely watched, both within India and globally.
The elections were held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with voter enthusiasm reaching a high. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the voter turnout across the Union Territory was 63.88%, underscoring the public's eagerness to participate in shaping the political future of Jammu and Kashmir. Political parties across the region are preparing for post-election events, with an air of confidence evident despite the final results still pending.
The National Conference (NC), which has been a dominant force

n the region, is hopeful of securing a substantial number of seats, while other key players like the People's Democratic Party (PDP), the Apni Party, and new entrants are also optimistic about their performance.
The BJP, which is a strong force in Jammu province, is hoping to improve its best-ever performance of 2014 when the party had won an all-time high 25 seats. This time BJP is hoping to open its account in the Kashmir Valley as well as in the Muslim majority seats of the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
In the 2014 Assembly elections, PDP emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats in its kitty followed by BJP with 25 seats. The National Conference won 15 seats and Congress 12.
The counting will take place at 20 counting centers established across the region, each of them fortified with a three-tier security system to ensure a smooth and safe process. The first layer of security will be positioned 100 meters from the premises of the counting centers, followed by personnel stationed near the buildings, with the final layer inside the counting halls.
The security detail comprises personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the State Armed Police Force, and district police units, with senior police officers, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-level officials, overseeing the process.
