| Amarnath Yatra gets boost: Ramsoo Viaduct, Digdole tunnel ready; LG thanks PM Modi, Gadkari | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 1: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari after the completion of two key infrastructure projects on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)—an 810-metre viaduct near Ramsoo in Ramban district and the 3.5-km AT-03 tunnel connecting Digdole to Panthyal. The two strategically important projects, constructed at a cost of Rs 680 crore, are scheduled to be opened to traffic on July 3, coinciding with the commencement of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, providing safer and uninterrupted connectivity to the Kashmir Valley. In a post on social media, the Lieutenant Governor described the completion of the projects as another milestone in strengthening Jammu and Kashmir's road infrastructure. "Heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari Ji for transforming J&K's highways and road connectivity. The completion of the 810-metre-long viaduct near Ramsoo in Ramban district and the 3.5-km AT-03 Tunnel connecting Digdole to Panthyal on NH-44 is yet another monumental feat," Sinha said. He said the newly completed infrastructure would ensure smooth and all-weather movement for local residents, tourists, freight vehicles and security forces while significantly enhancing travel safety. According to the Lieutenant Governor, the projects will also provide seamless and reliable connectivity for pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra by bypassing some of the most landslide-prone stretches along the Ramban-Banihal section of the national highway. Earlier, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the successful completion of both projects, stating that the 810-metre viaduct on the northbound carriageway near Ramsoo and the 3.5-km AT-03 tunnel on the southbound carriageway connecting Digdole to Panthyal had been constructed at a total cost of ₹680 crore. Calling them "engineering marvels", Gadkari said the projects bypass one of the most vulnerable landslide-prone sections of the Ramban-Banihal corridor, ensuring safer, faster and all-weather connectivity between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley. He said the projects are expected to substantially reduce travel time, improve road safety and facilitate the uninterrupted movement of tourists, local commuters, defence personnel, freight carriers and essential supplies throughout the year. The Union Minister further said the projects, scheduled to be inaugurated on July 3 ahead of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, would offer pilgrims a safer and more dependable travel experience while strengthening regional connectivity, promoting tourism and trade, boosting economic growth, and enhancing the resilience of Jammu and Kashmir's National Highway network. |
