Jammu, Oct 10: On the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2024, the Department of Psychology, P.S.P.S. Govt. College for Women, organised a Powerpoint presentation, Seminar and Wall Magazine Activity on the theme “Mental Health at Workplace” on 10th of October, 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, and promote a supportive environment at workplace. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Ujjwal Sharma, HOD, Department of Psychology highlighting the need for managing mental health care at workplace.
The event was moderated by Ms. Savi, student of 5th semester, and insightful topics were presented by Ms. Aneesha Kour, Ms. Sneha Raina, Ms. Manasvee Chowdhary, Ms. Nancy Devi and Ms. Ankita Choudhary. They shared their research and personal experiences on maintaining mental well-being, stress management, and building a supportive work environment. The presentations focused on managing workplace stress & burnout and provided evidence based interventions for handling distress at workplace. Digital detox was presented as a solution to handle mental health issues. The students expressed their interpretations of mental wellness through wall magazine activity through vibrant charts & artwork. The thought-provoking creations highlighted the importance of self-care, empathy, and open conversations. The Principal, Dr. S.P. Saraswat, lauded the efforts of the students in highlighting crucial mental health issues and encouraged them to implement the theoretical knowledge into their daily life thus preventing mental illness. The event was attended by approximately 90 students as well as faculty members of different departments. Physical Director Ms Kajal Premi highlighted the importance of mental health in sports.
The event was attended by Dr. Ruchi Sassan, Psychiatric Social Worker and Ms. Bhanu Priya, Counsellor at Govt. Hospital, Gandhinagar.
The event was organised by the faculty members of psychology department Dr Ujjwal Sharma, Prof Vinay Lata, Dr Rachna Devi, Dr Dhanvir Kour & Rohini Sharma and was assisted by Irshad Ahmed. The department extended its gratitude to Dr. Asha Devi, HOD, Department of Commerce for her cooperation. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Vinay Lata.
The department’s initiative demonstrated its dedication to cultivating a mentally healthy and supportive environment, echoing the World Health Organization’s call to prioritise mental health in the workplace.
