Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 16: Notwithstanding statements of the Congress leaders over the formation of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc government in Jammu and Kashmir, the grand old party has been relegated from a junior partner to a non-entity in Omar Abdullah’s government. The induction of Congress rebel and Independent MLA Satish Sharma into the council of ministers is a clear indication that the National Conference leadership is not giving importance to the Congress party due to the worst-ever debacle of the party in the Jammu region.
Sources said that the ruling National Conference has realized that the Congress has turned into a “non-performing liability” because the party has won all six seats in Jammu and Kashmir due to the support of the party (National Conference) so it is better to get rid of this party by giving importance to Independents who have potential to address peoples’ grievances.

ved a majority with the support of four Independents,
Before getting the formal support letter from the Congress, the National Conference approached four Independents and achieved a majority in the Legislative Assembly.
After getting the unconditional support of four Independents the National Conference does not require the support of Congress to secure a majority in the 90-member legislative assembly.
After the declaration of the result, the Congress was considered as a junior partner in the coalition government but with today’s development, the Grand-old Party has been relegated to a non-entity in the coalition.
According to well-placed sources, shortly after the results were announced, the NC leadership made contact with Satish Sharma and Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Independent MLAs from the Chhamb and Bani constituencies in Jammu and Kathua districts, respectively.
Sources added that Payare Lal Sharma (Inderwal), Choudhary Akram (Surankote), and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan (Thanamandi) — who had contested as rebel NC candidates — were already in touch with the party and are expected to formally align with the National Conference soon.
