SKUAST-J team of sensor based agriculture explores AI and machine learning Infrastructure

JAMMU, Oct 17: A team of scientists from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) visited Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, to explore the institution's advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) facilities. The visit was under the dynamic leadership of Prof. B.N.Tripathi, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu and conducted in Holistic Agriculture Development Programme project on Sensor Based Smart Agriculture a team of scientists led by Prof. Sushil Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Prof. Manish Sharma, Head, Agricultural Statistics, and Prof. Parshant Bakshi, Head, Division of Fruit Science.
The primary objective of the visit was to understand and assess the capabilities of Thapar University's AI and ML infrastructure, with the goal of developing such facilities for precision farming at SKUAST-Jammu under HADP Project No. 17, focused on Sensor-Based Smart Agriculture. This initiative aims to integrate cutting-edge technologies for precision farming, ensuring sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
During the visit, Prof. Maninder Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs at Thapar Institute, provided an overview of the AI and ML infrastructure and discussed the ongoing research initiatives. He assured support for future collaborations between the two institutions, emphasizing knowledge sharing and technical cooperation to strengthen agricultural research.
The scientists from SKUAST-Jammu expressed optimism that the insights gained from the visit would significantly contribute to the development of smart agriculture technologies at their institution. The collaboration between the two institutions aligns with the shared vision of enhancing agricultural productivity through modern technologies will be beneficial for both the institutions which can be possible by signing MoU in future.
