10/17/2024 10:38:10 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 17: The Department of Lifelong Learning (DLL), in collaboration with the Block Development Office (BDO) Nagrota, has launched a month-long field immersion programme for first-semester students of the Masters in Rural Studies at Panchayat Dhok Wazeera, Block Nagrota. This initiative, a key part of the rural studies curriculum, aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of rural life by bridging the gap between classroom instruction and practical, on-the-ground experiences.
The field immersion programme enables students to integrate theoretical knowledge with the realities of rural settings, offering a holistic learning experience. The relevance of such experiential learning has been emphasized by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, who advocates the importance of field-based education in creating a well-rounded academic experience.
Led by Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Director of DLL, and supported by faculty members Prof. Kavita Suri, Dr. Vivek Sharma, Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva, and Dr. Sandeep Singh, the programme provides students with hands-on exposure to rural governance and community life.
The collaboration with the Block Development Office Nagrota is central to this initiative, facilitating student visits to key local institutions. During the inaugural visit, students and faculty engaged with Sarpanch Sh. Raman Wazir and Panchayat Secretary Mr. Chowdhary at Panchayat Dhok Wazeera, who provided insights into the workings of the Panchayat. The Panchayat office will serve as a focal point for the students’ activities over the next month, with the full support of local authorities to further their field exploration.
