Jammu, Oct 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday expressed his gratitude toward the people of Jammu and Kashmir for giving a decisive mandate to his party to form a stable and strong government in the recently held Assembly elections.
Without naming Congress, the Chief Minister said “We were expecting more support from others, but every single seat we have won is a victory for the people and a step towards a brighter future for our beloved region”.
“The recent Assembly elections have been a testament to the faith and trust you, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, have placed in the National Conference”, he said while addressing party workers at Jammu.
It is important to mention that the Congress party, despite its long history in Jammu and Kashmir, has faced a significant setback in these elections, securing only six seats.
This is a reflection of the changing political landscape and the evolving aspirations of our people. For the first time in history, the Congress has won only one seat in the Jammu province, highlighting the need for a renewed focus on the issues that matter most to our citizens.
“As we move forward, I want to assure you that the National Conference is committed to working tirelessly for the development and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir. We will address the challenges that lie ahead with determination and a clear vision for the future. Together, we will build a region that is inclusive, progressive, and reflective of the diverse voices that make up our community”, he said.
“As we embark on this new journey, I want to

ake it clear that our government will not be run based on the voting patterns witnessed in the recent assembly elections. Our primary goal is to bring back the missing smiles on the faces of the people in both divisions of our Union Territory”, he said.
“When the election results were announced, some people started spreading rumors that Jammu would be punished for not voting for the NC-Congress coalition candidates”, he said but assured, “Let me make it clear from day one that this government is for all, irrespective of whether anyone voted for it or not. We are here to serve every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir”.
“Unlike previous coalition governments, we were under no compulsion to appoint a deputy chief minister to give representation to both regions”, he said.
“The Congress has not yet decided to join the new cabinet, so we appointed Surinder Choudhary from our own party as the Deputy Chief Minister. This decision was an answer to those who claimed that the NC is a party of Muslims and a Kashmir-based dynastic party that cannot tolerate leaders from Jammu. Now, we have a Deputy CM who is a Hindu and has no familial ties to me”, he said.
Without naming any party, he said, “I must say that delimitation and reservation were done in a way to benefit one party, but no tactics, including the use of government machinery, can guarantee election victories”.
“The easy part was forming the government; now, the difficult work begins. We must fulfill the aspirations of the people, address their difficulties, and bridge the gap between the government and the people”, he said.
