‘Miss World Undeclared’ Staged at Natrang Studio
10/20/2024 10:44:55 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 20: In its Sunday Theatre series at Natrang’s Studio Theatre Kachi Chawni, the play Miss World Undeclared was performed today, bringing forth a poignant narrative of racial discrimination faced by Asians in European countries. Written by Satyendra Shrivastava and directed by Neeraj Kant, the play highlighted the struggles of immigrants who endure exclusion and prejudice from the native population due to their different appearances and backgrounds. The story centered around a young schoolgirl named Noorie, who was frequently bullied by her classmates for not meeting their superficial standards of beauty. Her darker complexion became a point of ridicule, leading her to contemplate quitting school. However, her mother, portrayed as a wise and compassionate figure, encouraged her to see beyond the narrow definitions of beauty imposed by society. She taught Noorie that true beauty comes from within—a pure heart and a calm mind, far more significant than external appearances.
The play reached its emotional climax when Noorie returned to school, only to find out that the winner of the Miss World pageant was an Indian girl. This victory bolstered her self-esteem, reinforcing the idea that real beauty transcends racial or physical features. The message was clear: it is not how one looks, but who they are that truly defines beauty.
Miss World Undeclared was brought to life by Natrang's talented young cast, including Vrinda Gujral, Mehak Chib, Priyal Ashok Gupta, and Lalita Sharma, whose performances captivated the audience. Neeraj Kant designed and operated the lighting, while Kushal Bhat provided the musical score. The show was expertly coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
The play concluded on a hopeful and uplifting note, leaving the audience with the thought that self-worth comes from character, not complexion—a message that resonates deeply in today’s world.
