GLDM Degree College Hiranagar students attend workshop

KATHUA, Oct 24: Students of Department of Environmental Sciences and Eco Club visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua for one Day Workshop on Mushroom Cultivation The visit was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Pragya Khanna, esteemed Principal of Govt. G.L.D.M Degree College, Hiranagar. About 40 students attended the workshop and received hands-on training on Mushroom Cultivation. The session beagn with an impressive power point presentation by Dr. Anamika Jamwal, Chief Scientist (Plant Pathology) KVK Kathua.
She expalined the types of mushrooms, their values and the process of making compost for mushroom cultivation. She elaborated the processs of spawning, casing, pinning and cropping in very interesting way. Dr. Vishal Mahajan, Chief Scientist and Head KVK, Kathua, also took up an interactive session with students in which he very politely and enthusiastically answered all the queries raised by the students. He also motivated the students to go for start-ups and become enterpreuners. He encouraged the students to start mushroom cultivation alongside studies and start earning. He said Kathua district is leading in Mushroomm production. He also briefed various oppurtunities and subsidies given by Government for taking up mushroom cultivation and other allied activities. The students were taken to fields for practical purpose, where the compost for mushroom, at various stages was being prepaperd and turning process was going on. The students very enthusiastically participated in the workshop. Dr. Brejesh Ajrawat, Dr. Vishal Sharma and Mr. Amit of KVK Kathua also interacted with the students. Prof. Neeru Sharma (Convenor Eco-Club) coordinated the whole visit and inspired the students to avail all the oppurtunities given by college and become self sufficient in life. Eco-Club members Prof. Ganga Sharma and Prof. Tammana Rajput accompanied the students and also participated in the workshop with high spirit and zeal.
