Awareness programme on POCSO Act held

RAMGARH, Nov 7: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government Degree College (GDC) Ramgarh, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Samba organized an informative and impactful awareness programme on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The event aimed to provide knowledge about the child sexual abuse highlighting the importance of POSCO act in protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation. The programme was graced by esteemed guests, including Sandeep Singh, Senior Secretary, DLSA Samba and Nimisha Rajput, Chairperson, Child Welfare.
The programme starts with insightful session by Nisha Rani, Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel where she highlighted the significant role of DLSA in providing legal assistance and support to victims of child abuse. She emphasized the importance of legal aid in ensuring that justice is accessible to all, especially vulnerable children. Further, Iiti Sharma, a Panel Lawyer and resource person, delivered an engaging session on the POCSO Act. She elaborated on the key provisions of the law, highlighting its role in providing a legal structure for the protection of children, the process of filing complaints, and the procedures that ensure the rights of children are safeguarded during legal proceedings.
The Chief Guest, Sandeep Singh, Senior Secretary at DLSA Samba, also addressed the gathering. He spoke about the significance of such awareness programmes which serve as a vital tool in empowering students and the community at large. He emphasized that the POCSO Act is not only a legal safeguard but also a call for society to stand united in protecting its youngest and most vulnerable members.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Snobar, who extended gratitude to all the speakers, resource persons, and participants for their valuable contributions, making the programme a great success. The programme was attended by all the students and faculty of the college, who expressed their appreciation for the knowledge shared and the opportunity to engage in important discussions on child protection laws.
