JMC Launches Antismog Guns to Combat Air Pollution
11/15/2024 9:23:59 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 15: In a continued effort to provide a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment to the citizens of Jammu, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has launched two state-of-the-art Antismog Guns with water sprinklers. These advanced vehicles were inaugurated today under the directions of the Commissioner, JMC, to help mitigate air and dust pollution in key traffic-prone areas of the city.
The launch took place across several major roads, including Dogra Chowk, Canal Road, Secretariat Road, Shakuntala, Raj Bhawan, BC Road, Residency Road, Wazarat Road, Amphalla to High Court Road, Kachi Chawni, Palace Road, and Vivekanand Chowk to Indira Chowk in the North Zone. Future drives are planned to cover the South Zone, with routes extending to Vikram Chowk, Airport, Panama Chowk, Green Belt Road, Gandhinagar, Channi, and Trikuta Nagar.
The Antismog Guns, procured under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), are each fitted with water sprinklers and have a capacity of 9,000 liters. These special-purpose vehicles are equipped with an additional Anti Dust Gun at the rear, which enhances the spray thrust, allowing for a fine mist to cover a maximum height of 30 feet from the ground. This feature ensures a wider area of coverage and more effective dust suppression.
With the addition of these two new Antismog Guns, JMC’s fleet now includes six water sprinklers of varying capacities.
These measures align with guidelines from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Pollution Control Board, aimed at improving air quality in urban areas and reducing health risks associated with pollution.
The launch of these Antismog Guns marks a significant step in JMC’s ongoing efforts to combat air pollution and improve the overall air quality in Jammu, benefitting residents and enhancing the city’s environmental sustainability.
