Dual power system hindering J&K's development: Rattan Lal Gupta
11/27/2024 11:22:07 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 27: Adv. Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), today shown great concern to the dual power structure in Jammu and Kashmir, calling it detrimental to both the region and the nation.
In a strongly worded statement issued here today, the senior NC leader highlighted the difficulties caused by dual power mechanism, emphasizing the urgent need for a streamlined governance model. He pointed out the surge in terrorist activities as a glaring example of the administrative failure under this dual setup.
"Jammu and Kashmir is a sensitive state, and the dual power mechanism is currently operating is not viable. We have two power centers functioning simultaneously in J&K, which has led to confusion within the administration. This divided governance approach is creating obstacles rather than providing solutions. A sensitive state like Jammu and Kashmir requires a single, empowered voice that reflects the will of its people," he said.
Expressing grave concern over the deteriorating security situation, Rattan Lal Gupta cited media reports indicating that eight out of ten districts in Jammu region have witnessed terror incidents this year, resulting in the tragic loss of 44 lives. He urged the government to enhance the efficiency of intelligence agencies to counter the escalating threats.
"The dual power system has not only created confusion but also weakened the region's ability to address security challenges effectively. The people of J&K deserve peace and stability, and this can only be achieved through coherent and unified governance," he added.
Calling for the immediate restoration of statehood, Rattan Lal Gupta underscored that an elected government headed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, fully empowered, would be best positioned to address the aspirations and concerns of J&K residents. He emphasized that the voice and will of the people are paramount, and only a fully empowered state government can ensure that these voices are heard and acted upon.
"Our leader, Omar Abdullah, is a dynamic and visionary leader who truly understands the pulse of Jammu and Kashmir. An administration under his guidance would provide the clarity and direction that is currently lacking. A return to statehood, with an elected government at the helm, is essential for the well-being and prosperity of J&K's citizens," he said.
The Provincial President urged the Central Government to fulfill its promise of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without further delay. He stressed that J&K's unique challenges require decisive and independent leadership, which only a state government can provide.
"Statehood must be restored immediately to ensure that the mandate of voters and aspirations of the people are respected and realized," he added.
