KISHTWAR, Nov 29: The Department of Agriculture, Kishtwar organized an awareness camp to promote Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) and other Centrally Sponsored Schemes aimed at encouraging farmers to adopt organic farming through cluster approach, besides value addition of farm products. Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan was the chief guest. The program witnessed the participation of more than 50 farmers. As part of the initiative, essential materials such as NPK Liquid Consortia, Neem Oil and Vermi Beds were distributed among farmers from the Organic Cluster Matta. These inputs are vital for fostering sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices.
In his address, the DC highlighted the significance of organic farming, sustainable agricultural practices and the overall health benefits of organic farming in promoting a healthier lifestyle. Additionally, the camp included 6 demonstration plots of wheat crops to farmers under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme. The demonstration focused on wheat cultivation techniques, the application of organic manure, and the use of bio-pesticides.
Farmers were also provided knapsack spray pumps to support efficient pest management in their fields.
Chief Agriculture Officer Amjad Hussain Malik emphasized the role of organic farming in maintaining soil health, ensuring environmental sustainability, and increasing farm incomes. The participating farmers were encouraged to adopt these advanced practices and techniques to achieve better crop yields and long-term benefits.
The efforts of Humera Nabi, Agriculture Extension Assistant, were also lauded for her guidance and support to the farmers.
