Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 10: Even as leaders of the ruling National Conference are confident that statehood will be restored very soon, the Union Government is not in a hurry to fulfill this demand of some political parties. Highly placed sources said that before taking the decision to restore statehood to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Government will review all pros and cons.
“Restoration of statehood is near future is not possible the Union Government will review actions and functioning of the National Conference government in Jammu and Kashmir”, sources said and added that the Union Government has not rejected the demand of the statehood but the decision in this regard would be taken by taking all stakeholders on the board.
Sources said that the Union Government will also take J&K BJP leadership into confidence while taking the decision on restoring statehood. “The BJP-led Union Government will not ignore local leadership of the party while taking policy decisions on Jammu and Kashmir”, a source said, adding, “As of now the J&K BJP leaders have not raised the demand of restoring statehood”.
Important to mention here that on November 8, Leader of Opposition and MLA Paddar-Nagsani, Sunil Sharma had observed that the decis

on of the ruling National Conference to pass the resolution on the restoration of Article 370 would delay the restoration of statehood.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have repeatedly committed to grant statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and we were going to get the statehood back very soon but the recent happening in the Assembly would definitely delay the process", Sharma said while interacting with media persons at Srinagar on November 8 after passing of a resolution on Article 370 in the Legislative Assembly.
“By raking up issues like restoration of Article 370 and so-called special status, the ruling party is creating hurdles in the restoration of statehood”, Sharma said.
He warned that the National Conference's "undemocratic and unconstitutional" actions in the Legislative Assembly could hinder Jammu and Kashmir's statehood restoration. Sharma expressed concerns that the ruling party's recent behavior would delay statehood, despite the Union Government's willingness to consider it.
After the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of J&K into two Union Territories (UTs), the demand of restoring statehood gains momentum as except for BJP all other political parties are unanimous on this issue.
