MVD cracks down on pollution centres, warns against malpractices

JAMMU, Dec 13: Motor Vehicles Department under the directions of Regional Transport Officer Jammu Pankaj Bhagotra today launched a special drive for inspection of Pollution Checking Centres operating in Jammu district.
Random inspection of centres was conducted in Miran Sahib, Satwari, Bakshi Nagar, Warehouse, Akhnoor road by different teams of officials constituted for the said purpose. These inspections are being conducted as per the instructions issued by the Transport Commissioner J&K.
During the inspection some discrepancies were noticed by the officials like absence of technically qualified operators, non-display of rate list at centres etc. Accordingly notices were issued to concerned operators for rectification of discrepancies failing which online suspension of Pollution checking centres will be initiated.
The MVD team stressed for enforcing strict pollution checking measures for vehicles and directed the Pollution Checking Centres to ensure computerized testing and certification with minimum levels of human inference. They enjoined upon the owners of the Pollution Checking Centres not to deviate in any manner from the pollution checking norms. Such surprise checks will be carried out randomly to check all aspects of the working of Pollution Checking Centres including availability of Pollution checking equipment of approved specifications, availability of trained and technical manpower to operate the machines, updated software and requisite computer infrastructure, back-up facility, updated calibration and Annual Maintenance Contract.
Earlier, the MVD team also inspected the Taxi Aggregators authorized in the Jammu division. During the inspection four Jammu based aggregators were inspected regarding availability of on board vehicles with the aggregators and no. of daily rides being conducted by each operator. The team assured the aggregators regarding full assistance from the department for encouraging them to provide cost effective and hassle free service to the commuters.
The team comprised of Rehana Tabassam, ARTO (Hq), Vikas Srivats, Jagandeep Singh (MVls) and Tarunjot Singh, MVTA.
