KVK Reasi celebrates National Farmers Day

REASI, Dec 23: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated National Farmers Day (Kisan Diwas)-2024 here today at Dasanoo village in Reasi district of J&K. The programme was enthuasistically attended by a large number of women farmers of the area.
The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and guidance of Director Extension, Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Chief Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi warmly welcomed the participants and briefed about the significance of the event. He said that every year 23rd of December is celebrated as the National Farmers Day to mark the Birth Anniversary of the 5th Prime Minister of India, Choudhary Charan Singh.
He highlighted the extraordinary contribution of farmers in agriculture and stressed on empowering the farmers with the latest technologies. He said that farmers have pivotal role to raise the economy of the nation by increasing the crops production and productivity.
He said that farmers are actively involved in providing the food to the nation and stressed on the need more trainings and technical advice on scientific farming. He discussed on the value addition in agriculture and guided farmers on the micro-entreneurship development in the rural areas so that their socio-economic condition can be improved. He also guided the farmers on the organic formulation and suggested them for mushroom cultivation,organic vegetables cultivation, beekeeping, fruit and vegetables processing etc.
While interacting with the farmers he stressed on the adoption of scientific farming by which farmers can enhance their income and employment. He said that the area has huge potential in ginger and turmeric cultivation and farmers should go for their commercial cultivation especially in the monkeys prone areas. He added that by commercial organic vegetables and fruits cultivation they can generate extra income and employment in the area. Rahul Dogra of RSETI, Reasi spoke on entrepreneurship development in agriculture and added that farmers should adopt the advance technologies in the agricultural sector to enhance their farm income. He appreciated the efforts of KVK for serving the farmers of the area. He also spoke on the various schemes implemented for the rural women in the district.During the programme progressive woman farmer, Sunita Devi was also present during the occasion who shared her experiences on mushroom farming with other farmers of the area. Farmers interacted with the officials and asked various technical quarries which were answered by the officials in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Sunita Devi with formal vote of thanks.
