Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 26: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress is set to undergo a major shake-up as party chief Tariq Hameed Karra prepares to take decisive action against senior leaders held responsible for the party’s historic defeat in the recently concluded assembly elections.
Sources revealed that Karra is expected to seek approval from the Congress high command during the ongoing Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Belagavi in Karnataka.
The fact-finding committee constituted by Karra in the aftermath of the electoral debacle has nearly completed its investigation. The committee was tasked with identifying lapses and individuals whose actions or inaction contributed to the Congress’s worst-ever performance in the region.
Sources privy to the developments disclosed that Karra has already drafted an initial report outlining the reasons for the party’s failure. The report is believed to highlight strategic missteps, internal dissent, and lackluster campaigning as key factors behind the Congress’s poor showing.
“The fact-finding committee’s preliminary findings have identified several senior leaders whose conduct, either through negligence or deliberate actions, adversely impacted the party’s prospects,” a senior party insider revealed on the condition of anonymity.

o has been vocal about the need for accountability within the party, is reportedly determined to take strong corrective measures. During the CWC meeting, he is expected to present the findings to the high command and seek their consent for disciplinary action against those found guilty.
“The Congress cannot afford to ignore such a massive setback, especially in a politically sensitive region like Jammu and Kashmir. The leadership is committed to rebuilding the party from the grassroots level, and holding individuals accountable is a step in that direction,” a source close to Karra stated.
The CWC meeting, attended by senior Congress leaders including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, is likely to deliberate on Karra’s proposals as part of a broader discussion on the party’s performance and future strategy.
The Congress, which once held significant influence in Jammu and Kashmir, has been struggling to regain its foothold amidst the emergence of regional players and the dominance of national rivals like the BJP. Karra’s bold initiative could mark a turning point in the party’s efforts to reclaim its lost ground in the Union Territory.
An official announcement regarding any actions or decisions taken is expected in the coming days following the conclusion of the CWC meeting.
