JU pays tributes to former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh

Jammu, Dec 27: Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof. Umesh Rai today paid glowing tribute to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh while highlighting his exemplary journey from modest beginning to becoming one of India’s most respected leaders.
“Dr. Manmohan Singh was a statesman whose vision and wisdom guided India through critical junctures”, the Vice Chancellor said at a condolence meeting held in the Campus, adding that his remarkable intellect, coupled with his unwavering commitment to public service, made him a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations.
“The University of Jammu joins the nation in mourning his loss and salutes his unparalleled legacy. May his soul rest in eternal peace”, Prof Rai observed, saying his contributions to India’s economic and political landscape, as well as his gentle demeanour and exemplary character, will continue to inspire and guide future generations.
Meanwhile, the Department of Economics held a condolence meeting in which the faculty members, scholar and students recalled Dr. Singh’s contributions to academia, his tenure as an economist, and his ability to balance compassion and leadership. They also shared fond memories of Dr. Singh’s visits to the University of Jammu and, in particular, to the Department of Economics. His interactions with faculty and students during those visits were marked by warmth, wisdom, and encouragement. His insights into global and domestic economic issues left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of engaging with him.
Faculty members dwelt in detail on Dr. Singh’s life, particularly his leadership during India’s economic transformation and his emphasis on education as a tool for empowerment.
Speaking on the occasion, several students expressed their admiration for his humility and perseverance, which inspired countless individuals to strive for excellence and serve society selflessly.
The various other speakers spoke about Dr. Singh’s pivotal role in transforming India’s economy, particularly through the economic liberalization reforms of the 1990s. His tenure as Prime Minister was remembered for promoting inclusive growth, advancing education, and social welfare programs that touched the lives of millions. They reflected on Dr. Singh’s extraordinary contributions to the nation and his legacy of humility, intellect, and visionary leadership.
The condolence meeting was attended by faculty, staff, scholars, and students, A two minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Prayers were also offered for the departed soul and strength to bear this irreparable loss.
