SRINAGAR, Jan 8: The night temperature plummeted again across the Kashmir Valley, with tourist destinations of Gulmarg recorded at -9.8°C, Pahalgam -8.2°C, and Sonamarg -10.4°C on Wednesday, officials said.
The Meteorological Department Srinagar predicts the weather will generally remain dry till January 15, except for a chance of light rain over the plains of Jammu and snow at isolated to scattered places during January 11 and 12 in Jammu and Kashmir.
The ski resort of Gulmarg slipped down to a low of -9.0°C on Wednesday against the -6.6°C recorded the previous night. This was -20°C below normal for the tourist resort of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district for the day.
Pahalgam recorded a low of -8.2°C against the -7.8°C on Tuesday. This was 2.0°C below normal for the tourist spot of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the period.
The minimum temperature recorded during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday also plunged to a low of -10.4°C at the picturesque Sonamarg in the central Kashmir Ganderbal district.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed a low of -1.0°C against the previous night at 0.9°C, and this was 0.9°C above the average for the place during the period.
The day temperature rose as the bright sun appeared Tuesday in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley, with the capital city recording a maximum of 8.6°C, which was 2.0°C above normal for the day, the MeT office said.
The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara had a low of -2.1°C, the picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir -1.9°C, and Qazigund -2.4°C recorded on Wednesday, the MeT office said.
