Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 9: Although the ruling National Conference has withheld the joining of former Commandant BSF Dr. Karnail Singh in the party, some party leaders who facilitated his induction into the party are likely to face action.
Highly placed sources said that the National Conference leadership has taken very serious note of this goof-up as the party faced embarrassment after inducting Singh into the party, who has been accused as a kingpin in the infamous Sub-Inspector recruitment scam by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Sources said that the top leadership of the National Conference was not aware that Dr. Karnail Singh was accused of the recruitment scam. “It was projected that Dr. Karnail Singh recently retired from the BSF and he wanted to serve the society”, a source said.
“We were not aware that he (Karnail Singh) was an accused in the recruitment scam. We have withheld his joining in the party”, National Conference Dr. Farooq Abdullah told media persons.
On January 6, Dr. Karnail Singh, a former Commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF) joined the National Conference.
Within minutes after his joining, a massive controversy erupted as social media flooded with posts mentioning that Singh was the alleged mastermind behind the Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub-Inspector (JKPSI) recruitment scam. Interestingly, Singh’
National Conference has withheld the joining of former Commandant BSF Dr. Karnail Singh in the party.
Some party leaders who facilitated his induction into the party are likely to face action.
The NC leadership has taken very serious note of this goof-up as the party faced embarrassment.
Singh has been accused as a kingpin in the infamous Sub-Inspector recruitment scam by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
induction took place in the presence of the party’s president, Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
Welcoming Dr. Singh, Dr. Abdullah described the National Conference as a “mass movement” committed to the development and progress of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Currently out on bail, Dr. Singh vowed to work toward the party’s vision of fostering a peaceful and progressive Jammu and Kashmir. Alongside him, Madan Lal, Kamlesh, and several other supporters also joined the NC during the event, which saw the presence of senior party leaders, including Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta, and Israr Khan.
Dr. Singh remains a central figure in the JKPSI recruitment scam, accused of leaking examination papers for police sub-inspectors, junior engineers, and finance account assistants. His arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in October 2022 led to the cancellation of recruitment lists, disrupting the aspirations of thousands of candidates and raising serious questions about the integrity of recruitment processes in Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh, who was described as the “kingpin” of the scam in the CBI charge sheet, spent months in custody before being granted bail. He is one of 24 individuals charged in the case, which has drawn significant public criticism for compromising merit-based recruitment and damaging public trust.
