In a historic step towards unlocking Jammu and Kashmir’s immense potential, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah are setting the stage for a groundbreaking moment—the inauguration of the Z-Morh Tunnel in the scenic valley of Sonamarg.
This milestone promises to redefine the region’s future by connecting communities, boosting tourism, and creating sustainable opportunities.
Sonamarg, the "Meadow of Gold," has always been a gem of the Himalayas. However, its breathtaking beauty was often limited to seasonal visitors, with winters cutting off access due to snow. That’s about to change. With the Z-Morh Tunnel opening Sonamarg to tourism year-round, it signals a long-awaited transformation for the region. Prime Minister Modi highlighted this vision during his review of preparations for the event.
"The inauguration of the Z-Morh Tunnel will make Sonamarg a premier ski destination while also reducing travel time to Kargil and Leh," he stated.

As the region prepares for this monumental occasion, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared breathtaking aerial shots of the Sonmarg valley and the tunnel’s entrance. The images captured the interplay of human ingenuity and nature’s magnificence—a harmonious blend of progress and preservation.

In a collaborative spirit, he added, “Eagerly awaiting my visit to Sonamarg for the inauguration. The views are truly stunning, and the benefits for the local economy are undeniable.”
The Z-Morh Tunnel stands as a testament to India’s commitment to inclusive development. By opening Sonamarg to year-round access, the region is poised to become a hub for winter sports, trekking, and cultural tourism. Hotels, ski resorts, and local businesses are gearing up for a surge in visitors. For the people of Sonamarg, this is more than an infrastructural achievement—it’s an invitation to dream bigger.
