Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 14: Dr. Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in drug abuse across the Union Territory. He emphasized the urgent need for collective efforts to address this growing menace and safeguard the future of the youth.
Dr. Abdullah made these remarks during his interaction with various delegations today. He stressed that drug addiction is not just a personal issue but a societal challenge that requires a multi-pronged strategy involving awareness campaigns, preventive measures, and robust rehabilitation programs. A delegation from International Delhi Public School (IDPS) Jammu, led by Dr. Suminder Singh and Swaran Choudhary, along with Malu Sharma, Head of Media and Communication, met Dr. Abdullah to discuss the increasing drug problem. The delegation proposed collaborative initiatives to create a stronger, drug-free society.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah acknowledged the critical role of educational institutions in combating this issue and encouraged proactive measures to engage youth in constructive activities.
Another delegation representing the Labana community, headed by its president Gurjyot Singh, also called on Dr. Abdullah. They apprised him of various issues affecting their community and sought his intervention. Dr. Abdullah assured them of his support and emphasized the need for inclusive development and equitable opportunities for all communities.
Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President JKNC, joined the discussion and underscored the necessity of establishing rehabilitation centers at district levels across Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that such centers would provide a structured environment for individuals struggling with addiction, aiding their recovery and reintegration into society.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah reiterated his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and assured the delegations of the party's unwavering support in tackling these pressing issues.
