Congress plans to make six leaders “scapegoats” to protect Tara Chand
1/16/2025 9:31:38 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 16: Although the recommendations of the Fact-Finding Panel have yet to be made public by Congress leadership, the party issued show-cause notices to six leaders for working against former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand on the Chhamb assembly segment.
Show-cause notices have been issued to Mohal Lal Bhagat, ex-block president, Kuldeep Raj Sharma, ex-constituency incharge, Om Parkash, Master Des Raj Bhagat, Sardar Manjit Singh, and Rahul Tandon.
Highly placed sources said that these grassroots leaders were made scapegoats to save former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, who was adamant about contesting elections on the Chhamb assembly segment instead of shifting to the reserved Akhnoor seat.
Sources said that during interaction with the Fact Finding Committee, many leaders and workers of Akhnoor Sub-Division have blamed Tara Chand for the party’s defeat in both Chhamb and Akhnoor Assembly segments.
As reported earlier by this newspaper, the party had suggested former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand to shift to the reserved Akhnoor assembly segment and leave the Chhamb segment for Satish Sharma.
Instead of leaving the Chhamb seat for Satish Sharma, the former Deputy Chief Minister was adamant about contesting on the same seat because he wanted to settle his personal score with Satish Sharma, son of veteran Congress leader and political stalwart of Jammu's late Madan Lal Sharma.
Sources said that Congress leadership was very much aware that due to the adamant and vindictive attitude of Tara Chand, the party lost both the Chhamb and Akhnoor Assembly segments.
Satish Sharma not only emerged victorious on the Chhamb assembly seat but also relegated Tara Chand to third place.
“At a time when party leaders and grassroots workers are demanding an answer for denying mandate to deserving young leader, show cause notices have been served to save Tara Chand”, sources said.
Important to mention here that a Fact Finding Committee was formed by the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra on October 18, 2024, to ascertain reasons for the party’s worst-ever defeat in the Assembly elections.
Facing an existential crisis after its worst-ever defeat in the recent Assembly elections, workers of the party wanted to know the reasons for this debacle.
In the 2024 Assembly elections, Congress won six seats but the party won only Rajouri seat from Jammu province.
Once a dominant force in the region, the party is now struggling with internal conflicts. Grassroots leaders are pointing fingers at senior JKPCC members, accusing them of prioritizing personal and monetary gains over the party's interests. This infighting is making it harder for the party to bounce back from its recent loss.
