Jammu’s Pride: Nazia, unsung hero of India’s Kho-Kho World Cup triumph

Jammu, Jan 28: Nazia, a 21-year-old from Ban village of Nagrota in Jammu district, has etched her name in history as part of the Indian Women’s Kho-Kho team that claimed victory in the inaugural Kho-Kho World Cup. The tournament was held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Delhi, from January 13 to 19.
Today the Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust extended heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to young nomad Gujjar Bakerwal Girl, Nazia Choudhary, who made history by becoming the first player from Gujjar- Bakerwal Tribal Community of Jammu and Kashmir to represent India in the Indian Women’s Kho Kho Team for the World Cup 2025 and won a Gold Medal.
“Being part of a team that created history is truly a matter of pride and honor,” Nazia said after the Indian women’s team emerged victorious, marking a monumental achievement for the country and her region.
Nazia has become the first woman from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India in Kho-Kho at the international level. Her participation and stellar performance in the World Cup have not only brought pride to her hometown but also inspired the entire region.
Despite facing challenging circumstances and limited resources, Nazia’s unwavering determination and hard work propelled her toward her dream. She began pursuing her passion for sports at a young age, overcoming hurdles along the way to reach the international stage.
“This is the most memorable moment of my life,” Nazia shared, reflecting on her journey. She added that her mission now is to inspire the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to embrace sports and follow their dreams.
Nazia emphasized the importance of sports, stating that they not only foster physical and mental development but also provide a positive outlet for channeling the energy of young people in a constructive direction.

From there, she advanced to the national camp held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, eventually earning her spot on the Indian Women’s Kho-Kho team.
