Tony slams Union Budget, calls for Rati Sarari's promotion as tourist spot
2/3/2025 9:53:52 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 3: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has expressed deep disappointment and resentment against the BJP-led Central Government for what he termed as a complete disregard for Jammu and Kashmir in the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He criticized the government for its "step-motherly" treatment towards the region, highlighting that the budget fails to address critical and long-standing issues, including the pressing need for improved infrastructure, employment opportunities, and rural development in J&K.
The senior Congress leader was speaking after holding a Janata Darbar at Village Barmini, on the outskirts of Jammu.
Tony emphasized that despite the region's strategic importance and historical significance, the budget allocations for J&K remain inadequate and do not reflect the aspirations of the people. He pointed out that the BJP government's neglect of essential sectors like healthcare, education, and employment continues to hinder progress, leaving the youth and marginalized communities in a state of despair.
Furthermore, Tony accused the BJP government at the Centre of paying lip service to development promises while failing to deliver tangible results on the ground.
Earlier, the senior Congress leader interacted with locals who voiced their concerns over deteriorating roads, scarcity of clean drinking water, poor healthcare facilities, and rising unemployment. He lamented that despite tall claims of development, the ground reality remains grim, with people in rural areas struggling for basic amenities.
Tony pointed out that the lack of proper road connectivity has isolated many villages, hampering economic activities and access to healthcare. He also criticized the earlier government for failing to provide sustainable employment opportunities, pushing the youth towards uncertainty.
Appealing to the Chief Minister and the Cabinet Ministers, Tony urged them to focus on neglected regions and ensure balanced development. He also called for the promotion of Rati Sarari as a tourist destination to boost local economy and job creation.
Tony reiterated the Congress party's commitment to addressing these critical concerns and vowed to continue to fight for the rightful share of resources and development projects for Jammu and Kashmir, urging the government to revisit its priorities and take concrete action to uplift the region.
