NC, BJP dismiss alliance speculation amid talk of political realignment

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 11: Leaders from both the ruling National Conference (NC) and the opposition BJP have dismissed speculation about a possible alliance in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, calling such reports “baseless” and “misleading”.
NC’s chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq and BJP leader Sunil Sharma categorically ruled out any political understanding between the two parties, refuting recent media reports suggesting otherwise.
Addressing the media, NC spokesperson and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq rejected claims that the party was in talks with the BJP, calling the report published in a local newspaper “completely unfounded” and an example of “irresponsible journalism.”
“As far as Dr. Farooq Abdullah is concerned, he was in Mumbai, not in Delhi, as falsely reported. Similarly, the meeting between Omar Abdullah and Home Minister Amit Shah was a routine affair. Omar Abdullah has met the Home Minister in the past as well, and no special arrangement was made for this meeting,” Sadiq clarified.
He reaffirmed the NC’s opposition to the BJP, stressing that the party has consistently contested elections against it and remains firm in its stance. “The NC strongly refutes such baseless reports. Media houses creating unnecessary confusion will not be entertained by the party in the future,” he added.
However, Sadiq acknowledged that a working relationship with the central government has always existed and will continue.
“Let me make it clear that the BJP and NC can never share a political platform. However, as part of governance, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah meets the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and other central leaders solely for the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Kum

r Sharma, also dismissed any possibility of an alliance between the two parties. Speaking to a Kashmir-based news agency, Sharma asserted that the BJP remains committed to playing the role of a constructive opposition.
“There is no question of forming a government with the NC. We are in opposition, and we will continue to hold the Omar Abdullah-led government accountable for the issues faced by the people,” Sharma said.
Accusing the NC-led government of neglecting governance, Sharma alleged that the common masses were suffering due to the administration’s apathetic approach.
“There is no one on the ground to listen to the grievances of the people, whether in Jammu, Doda-Kishtwar, or even Kashmir. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seems more interested in hosting lunches and dinners in five-star hotels in Delhi than addressing public concerns. Corruption is beginning to take root in government departments,” he claimed.
Sharma further vowed that the BJP would raise pressing issues within and outside the Assembly, ensuring that the government fulfills its electoral promises. “We will not allow the ruling party to deceive the people of Jammu and Kashmir with false promises of free electricity, subsidized gas cylinders, and ration. They will have to answer for every commitment made,” he stated.
He also made it clear that the BJP would oppose any bill or resolution deemed “anti-constitutional or anti-national.” “We will resist any such move with full force,” he declared.
The clarification from both parties comes amid heightened political speculation, with reports suggesting that senior NC leader Dr. Farooq Abdullah had been engaging in discussions with the BJP’s top leadership. However, both NC and BJP leaders have firmly denied any such developments, reinforcing their respective political stances in the region.
