The Jammu region, known for its diverse agro-climatic conditions, has immense potential for cash crop cultivation.
Cash crops not only enhance farmers’ incomes but also contribute significantly to employment generation, exports, and overall rural development.
The cash crops are the backbone of Jammu’s agrarian economy, providing a substantial source of income for farmers.
Unlike subsistence crops that are grown primarily for local consumption, cash crops are cultivated for sale in national and international markets.
Basmati rice, in particular, is one of the region’s most valuable exports, known for its distinctive aroma and long grain. It enjoys high demand globally, fetching premium prices and foreign exchange revenue.
The cash crops generate significant revenue for local farmers, while also fostering ancillary industries like processing, packaging, and exports. The government’s push for increasing agro-based industrialization further amplifies the economic impact of these crops.
