CHANDIGARH, Mar 13: Mentorship Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, organised a 3-day Mentorship programme and Pledge taking ceremony under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The awareness programme aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse, and to encourage them to fight against it. During the 3-day event, mentors of the respective classes shared the official online pledge link provided by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. They played a crucial role in creating awareness about drug abuse and its prevention, emphasising its social, psychological, and physical consequences. The mentors also cited research studies and real-life experiences to highlight the adverse effects of substance abuse, reinforcing the importance of a drug-free society. Students actively participated by taking the pledge and uploading their certificates, signifying their commitment to stay away from drugs. The programme witnessed an overwhelming response with more than 4,500 students participating on their scheduled dates and times. Their enthusiastic involvement demonstrated a collective determination to combat drug abuse.
Principal Suman Mahajan said that this awareness initiative marked a significant step towards building a healthier, drug-free future for students. She added that by fostering knowledge and responsibility among youth, the event reinforced the mission of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and strengthened efforts to eliminate drug abuse from society.
