Early Times Report

Srinagar/Jammu, Apr 22: Kashmir business and travel trade bodies have called for Kashmir Bandh on Wednesday in protest against the barbaric killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam.
The terror attack, which has been described as one of the deadliest targeting civilians in recent years, has left the region in mourning and has sparked outrage across the country.
According to statement the shutdown call has been jointly issued by the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir (CCIK), Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Club (JKHC), All Travel Associations, transporters, restaurant owners, and civil society groups.
Tariq Rashid Ghani, President of CCIK, stated, “We have called for Kashmir Bandh on April 23, i.e., Wednesday, against this barbaric act of violence.”
He emphasized the need for a collective response to condemn such atrocities and to stand in solidarity with the victims.
The bandh is expected to see the complete closure of businesses, transport services, and other establishments across the Valley. The decision is supported by major stakeholders in the tourism sector, which has been deeply affected by the killings, Ghani said.
CCI calls for Jammu bandh
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu, led by President Arun Gupta, has announced a complete Jammu Bandh on Wednesday, (April 23, 2025) to protest the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Anantnag district.
The bandh call has received widespread support from various organizations, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, who staged protest marches across Jammu on Tuesday evening to condemn the attack.
The VHP and Bajrang Dal have extended their full support to the CCI’s bandh initiative, urging citizens to join in solidarity to demand justice for the victims and stringent action against the perpetrators of this heinous act.
In a statement, CCI President Arun Gupta described the attack as “a barbaric assault on humanity and an attack on the spirit of Jammu & Kashmir tourism.” He called for unity among the people of Jammu to send a strong message against terrorism.
“This bandh is a collective stand against those who seek to disrupt peace and harmony in our region. We urge the government to identify and punish the culprits swiftly and ensure the safety of all citizens and visitors,” Gupta said. He further appealed to all traders, businesses, and citizens to observe a complete shutdown to honor the victims and press for immediate action.
The VHP and Bajrang Dal, during their protests, raised slogans in support of the Indian Army and demanded decisive measures to eliminate terrorism in the region.
VHP leaders emphasized that such attacks are an attempt to destabilize the region’s economy and tourism, a vital lifeline for Jammu & Kashmir.
Bajrang Dal activists echoed similar sentiments, pledging their support to the bandh and calling for heightened security to prevent future incidents.
The bandh has also been supported by other groups, including the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Shiv Sena (UBT), Dogra Front, Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, and various market associations.
The CCI Jammu, VHP, and Bajrang Dal urged all residents, traders, and organizations to participate in the bandh to express solidarity with the victims’ families and to demand a terror-free Jammu & Kashmir.
The bandh will see the closure of all shops, businesses, and commercial establishments across Jammu, with public transport likely to be affected.
Mehbooba Mufti calls for shutdown
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has also called for a complete shutdown across Kashmir on Wednesday in response to the inhumane terror attack in Pahalgam, which targeted tourists and left several innocent lives lost.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mufti stated, “It’s time to unite against the massacre of innocents.” She emphasized that the attack was not just an assault on a few, but an attack on all Kashmiris.
The call for the bandh has garnered widespread support, with the Chamber & Bar Association Jammu also backing the shutdown as a mark of respect for the victims. This unified stance aims to show solidarity with the families affected by the attack and condemn the brutality of the assault.
